I need some help with my bumping skills. I've been practicing bumping to myself and every time I hit it, it goes backward, behind me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can someone please help me? :/

You are swinging your arms.

To fix this, instead of swinging your arms (which is what people feel the need to do when they hit the ball just to make sure it moves) all you do is keep low, and keep your platform flat. The ball should have enough momentum that if you have a taught platform it should bounce right off. Shrug your shoulders and angle your hips toward your setter

Good Luck!

Remember to get in ready position. If you stand up the ball goes backwards. Ready positions is bootie down, get down low. Not to the floor low but you should be able to go under a volleyball net without ducking or hitting the bottom. Also when you're bumping the ball don't stand up whenever you bump it, don't swing your arms either.

The ball could be going backwards for 2 reasons:

1. you are not bending your legs or

2. you are swinging your arms too high

When you bump the ball, you want to do this:

-Stand square in front of the ball (if you can)

-Bend your legs at about a 100 degree angle

-Extend your arms as far as the can in the bump position making sure the ball will hit your Forearms at a flat place (not your hands)

-When the ball hits, don't swing your arms! just lift up n them a little bit and unbend your legs.

-Remember to face your arms and body in the direction of where you want the ball to go

Good luck!

Its Because You Are Swinging Your Arms. Wait For The Ball To Come To You And Lift Up With Your Knees, Not Your Arms. Hope It Works!!:D

I believe, you are either running up on the ball or your swinging your arms. Just remember get in your ready position and touch the ground. And your platform should be in front of you. And remember don't swing your arms let the ball hit your platform and slightly bend your knees toward the ball. And face your target. Hope I helped :).

I agree with neither of them. Its because your platform is too high while you swing your arms. When you pass a ball, it should go the direction your platform is at. So use a clock, its how I learned. You generally want to be at a 3-5 oclock area for a forward but relatively high pass, any high will be ontop/behind you and any lower will just shoot out at you. Work on keeping your platform/arms infront of you, stretched out and locked (remember to stay low too).

usually that because u are swinging ur arms. Try to extend ur arms to make a flat surface and then bend your knees.

Get under the ball to hit it then extend ur knees to hit the ball

Ur arms shouldnt move!!

its probably going backwards because you're swinging your arm up and trying to attack the ball before it gets to you. you just gotta let the ball come to you, and not the other way around.
