Thongs for 14 yr old volleyball player too young???

My 14 yo step daughter (who lives full time with her father and I)is in High School Volleyball. They wear spandex shorts for practice and games. She wants to wants to wear a thong because of VPL. I think she is too young and I know she will wear them with her lower rise jeans too. She asked and I said no. The shorts have a liner built in, but her bio-mom bought her 2 pairs. Both are very sexy and one has thick braided sides that would in fact show like a VPL. Am I right in thinking she should be more like 16 or 17?

This seems to be more of an issue with her birth mom. Many times divorced parents inadvertently use the children involved as innocent pawns in their own game of parental temper tantrums. She may feel the need to assert that she is the mom by letting her wear them when she knows darn well you do not approve. I feel your best case of action is to talk to your husband and reach an agreement regarding acceptable clothing items in your house. Granted she probably will wear them at her mom's just for spite, but in your house the rules you both apply should be followed without exception. If the mother persists, then I would tell her to keep them at her house for they are not welcome in yours. Most likely if this is just a mommy spat she will lose her "ammunition" and move on to something else. As long as you address the child upfront and show her that it is a matter of respect for her body I am sure she will see your point. Granted she might not agree with it but that is a different subject altogether.

I don't see anywhere where a thong has an age minimum. It's not like she's going to a rated R movie.

It's underwear for God's sake. I fully agree that she should wear a thong with her spandex because having panty lines in spandex is very noticeable.

Compromise with her. Tell her she can wear them with spandex as long as she doesn't wear them with low rise jeans. She can wear them with anything else but low rise jeans. What's the deal with letting people see your underwear outside your jeans anyways? What's the "message" there? It's stupid. Underwear is "Under - Wear". It goes "under" your clothes.

If she does, heck, pull em up. Give her a wedgie. That'll get the point across.

For the spandex, it's better to have g-string panty lines than to have granny panty lines.

Well I'm 14 and play for my high school volleyball team and yes the majority of us wear thongs to avoid the panty lines but its more comfortable (spandex and normal undies don't mix very well and don't look good together either). Anyways its what most girls do when playing volleyball and it makes sense. I mean, spandex gives you a horrible wedgie anyways so why not look good why you have it?

i buy the ones from victoria secret that are plain and seamless kinda like spandex their simple tasteful and undetectable with spandex

at 14 many of the other girls will not VPL

you will just give your daughter something to make her feel

no, i'm 14 and i know all my friends wear thongs during sports. it's really weird, but i think it's more comfortable. i wear them with my spandex too. because i am also in volleyball. so it's really not a big deal, most of the girls my age do it.

Um, why doesn't the mom just put a price tag on her back with the menu of ho options. That is ridiculous. I have no idea what VPL is, but a 14 yo with a thong is just baaaaad news. Yikes. Good luck with that. Tell the mom to just go ahead and sign her up for Jerry Springer right now.

i think that its ok for a girl to wear a thong just because the shorts show everything that makes a line. but she defiantly shouldn't wear them with other stuff. just for volleyball.

Underwear does not mean sex. Just get her some sensible cotton thongs if she wants to wear them. A 14 year old is fully capable of deciding what underclothes she wants to wear. Let her know she's not allowed to wear them with anything they show with if that's how you feel, but my guess is she'd be much more comfortable with the thongs with her uniform, so her panty lines don't show.

to prevent VPL on regular panties, just roll up the spandex shorts (depending on length) up to just under the butt. Then people will just think it's a wrinkle, it won't be embarassing.

As long as she is not doing drugs and not hanging out with the wrong people, it's OK.

I think it's o.k. It's an undergarment. I would worry more about what is showing on the outside than what her undergarments are.



Thongs work better with some clothing. I personally don't think its a big deal.

I just asked my 15 yr old nephew, who is a classic teen boy, what he would think if he saw a 14 yr old wearing a thong, and he only said one word - ho. :(
